Journal 1
The most common causes of DBPP my presentations contain are too many bullets and bad data presentation. I tend to handle aspects of pacing and visuals well, but struggle with the aforementioned issues. I think I tend to ignore MLP’s 3 and 6 most often. The reason I tend to give the audience an information overload (DBPP 1 and MLP 3) is because I want to make sure my audience understands what’s going on fully, and I want to make sure I don’t forget anything in the PowerPoint. To overcome this, I need to have more confidence in myself that I won’t actually forget what I want to say during a presentation (because I usually don’t regardless of the PowerPoint), and to realize that it is more effective to drive home my point through the words I say rather than the words on screen. As far as the data presentation, I often don’t focus on data enough in my PowerPoints, so when I do have to use data I don’t focus on it or give the audience an adequate visual reference for it. If I learn to focus on the fact that data can really help my presentation rather than just being a side-note, I will improve on this aspect of DBPP. As for the last MLP I mentioned, I need believe eliminating my issue with excessive text will cure this problem, as I will have more space to present pictures on the same page as text.
